Q: What is an NA?
A: NA stands for ‘nursing assistant’. An NA will register with the state to become an NAR in order to work in certain health care facilities.
Q: What is an NAR?
A: NAR stands for ‘Nursing Assistant-Registered’. This means you have applied to the Department of Health-Nursing Commission for a nursing assistant-registration license to be eligible to begin working in health care, and/or while attending a training program.

Q: What is an NAC?
A: NAC stands for ‘Nursing Assistant-Certified’. This means you have successfully completed a nursing assistant training program and have also passed both the written and skills test required by the state and have been issued a license to practice as an NAC.
Q: Is an NAC the same thing as a CNA?
A: Yes. In the past Nursing Assistants were referred to as a Certified Nursing Assistant but the state now lists the profession first then the credential.

Q: How long does the training program take?
A: Class & laboratory time approximately four weeks & scheduling of facility-based clinical training hours can be from the fifth to eight week depending on many variables and scheduling issues including the student, instructors, and nursing homes.
Q: If I’m busy and can’t attend class during the day how can I make it up?
A: Every effort must be made to attend the stream you are registered for. An absence may prevent a certificate of completion until the training hours are made up.

Q: What types of payments are accepted?
A: At the school we accept cash, money orders, personal checks, and credit & debit cards. Personal checks and money orders may be mailed.
Q: Can I pay my registration, tuition, lab and clinical fees by installment?
A: No. The non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 is due at the time of registration, and the tuition, lab and clinical fees of $550.00 is due no later than the first attendance of class.

Q: How old do I have to be to attend the program?
A: 16 years old and above. However, the 16 year old will require formal parental consent.
Q: Do you require a uniform to attend classes?
A: No clothing restrictions apply except that students are to dress decently for the school.

Q: What do I need to bring with me on the first day of class?
A: Any outstanding fees, a note book and pen to take notes.
Q: How long is my training good for in Washington State?
A: Maximum of two years. However, if you have not taken the state examination within six months after completion of your training, a refresher course may be necessary subject to changes to the eligibility of the state examination.

Q: Is my training good for another state?
A: This depends on the number of hours and curriculum, and whether, or not, you received a license to practice as a nursing assistant. If you are registered as a NA by the State of Washington check from the National Directory of Nurse Aid Registry whether an ‘Interstate Endorsement’ form is required by the state you are transferring to.
Q: Can I apply if English is not my first language?
A: Yes. ESL is acceptable as long as the applicant can read, write, speak and comprehend English well enough so that a patient would be able to understand directions being given during care
